Femap postprocessing

Part 5 - Postprocessing

Introduction

In the previous step we meshed the geometry to create the finite element model of the machined arm component. Then set up the analysis parameters and output requests for the NX Nastran solver. In this step we'll review the results calculated by an NX Nastran and post-process the data in Femap.

Postprocessing

To review the results, we'll use Femap’s post-processing toolbox. After toggling off the display of loads and constraints, we’ll turn on display of the deformed shape. Follow these step-by-step instructions.

  1. Click on the icon for the post-processing toolbox to bring it forward and then expand the deformed tool. Setting the style to deformed displays the maximum defamations scaled as a percentage of the maximum modal dimension.
  2. We can switch this to show the actual defamation and change the scale of the defamation to a higher value (in this case 500 times the actual deformation). Next we'll turn on the contour display of the von Mises stresses. The minimum and/or maximum value of the stress can also be displayed as text on the screen as shown here.
  3. We’ll return to the deformed tool and turn on animation.
  4. Increase the number of frames and change the type of animation.
  5. The post-processing toolbox offers other options for displaying section cuts, ISO surfaces, criteria plots, and vector results.
